Wanli, a new commercial and cultural landmark in Beijing's Tongzhou district, recorded a strong debut during its trial operation, attracting more than 400,000 visits and generating over 30 million yuan ($4.26 million) in sales in the first three days.
The complex, which features the Wangfujing WellTown mall, an open-air block named Tingyun Town, and the Nous Land hotel, has quickly become a popular destination. Foot traffic reached 110,000 on the first day of trial operation, with weekend visits totaling 310,000.
A wide range of flagship stores and regional debut outlets opened during the trial period, accompanied by special discounts. Several brands reported standout sales, with some ranking first nationwide on their opening day, while others led sales in North China or across Beijing.
Wang Peng, a researcher at the Beijing Academy of Social Sciences, said Wanli's appeal lies in its integration of commerce, culture, tourism, and leisure, creating immersive consumption experiences. Its design also links rail transit with commercial and cultural spaces, meeting the consumption needs of visitors from nearby cities and even across China.
Wanli is scheduled to officially open on Friday, with an exhibition, music concerts, and expanded promotions planned to further stimulate year-end consumption.
