At least 14 armed rebels, locally called Naxals, were killed in India's central state of Chhattisgarh, the police said on Saturday.
The confrontation between the security personnel and Naxals began at around 5:00 a.m. on Saturday. Twelve Naxals were killed in the Sukma district, while two others were eliminated in the Bijapur district, the police said.
India's Home Minister Amit Shah had vowed to eliminate Naxalism from the affected areas by the end of March this year. The insurgency, active in central and eastern India, has claimed hundreds of lives and displaced thousands.
