More than 10,000 teams from China and Southeast Asia took part in an artificial intelligence (AI) competition hosted by China's Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, highlighting growing efforts to turn AI research into commercial products and cross-border cooperation.

The event attracted 10,447 teams from 31 provinces, municipalities, and autonomous regions in China, as well as 11 ASEAN countries. Participants included companies, universities, and research institutions.

Commercial application and cross-border collaboration emerged as the most discussed topics. The competition helped develop 202 AI technologies and products with clear commercial potential. Software-based solutions dominated, accounting for 60.4% of the total.

The competition also helped move innovations closer to market. Fifty-seven projects progressed to the commercialization stage, and more than 40 are expected to go into operation. By connecting startups with investors, the event generated more than 74 million yuan ($10.3 million) in intended investment.

The AI solutions covered more than 20 industries, including smart agriculture, intelligent vehicles, digital health, and cross-border e-commerce.
