Gala Cinema, part of Broadway Circuit at Langham Place Mall, has become the first Hong Kong cinema to install a CLED screen, an advanced projection technology from the Chinese mainland.
Located in Mong Kok's prime commercial district, Gala Cinema has long been a popular destination for local filmgoers. The newly upgraded Theater 5 features a 10-meter-wide CLED screen and 197 seats.
According to the theater, moviegoers have flocked to experience the screen since its debut, praising its audiovisual performance. The advanced technology is injecting fresh vitality into the local film industry, it said.
The CLED screen, developed by China Film Group, represents a leading global standard in cinema projection technology. Certified by the Digital Cinema Initiatives, it supports 4K resolution and 120-frame-per-second playback, accurately reproducing high-brightness scenes while delivering refined colors across a wide color gamut with pure, noise-free images.
The Hong Kong CLED theater is the result of a collaboration between China Film Tech and Broadway Circuit. The partners said the system raises the standard for Hong Kong theaters, giving local audiences access to world-class projection technology.
This marks the CLED system's first commercial entry into a market outside the Chinese mainland. Hong Kong joins Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Zhuhai as Greater Bay Area cities equipped with the technology, expanding a regional network of high-end cinemas. The rollout reflects the integration of Chinese-developed technology into the area's cultural infrastructure.
