Ignacio Russo and Gonzalo Martinez struck late as Tigre continued its impressive start to the season with a 3-1 home win over Racing in Argentina's Apertura tournament on Monday.

Tigre's David Romero opened the scoring just before halftime when he dribbled half the length of the pitch before rounding goalkeeper Facundo Cambeses and rolling the ball into an empty net.

The visitors equalized in the 80th minute through Gabriel Rojas, whose first-time effort from 20 yards flew in off the gloves of Felipe Zenobio.

Russo restored his side's lead against the run of play five minutes later with a long-range shot on the counterattack.

Martinez, making his Tigre debut after his January move from River Plate, put the result beyond doubt a minute from time by lifting a shot over Cambeses from a tight angle.

The result leaves Tigre top of Group B with seven points from its first three games while Racing is last, having yet to secure a point.

Elsewhere in Argentina's top flight on Monday, Gimnasia LP won 3-1 at home to Aldosivi, Defensa y Justicia was held to a goalless home draw by Estudiantes, Argentinos Juniors drew 0-0 at home to Belgrano and Union Santa Fe cruised to a 4-0 home win over Gimnasia Mendoza.
