Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein on Sunday called for an end to the conflict in the region and the commencement of a serious dialogue process, urging the conflicting parties to immediately cease military operations and resort to diplomatic solutions.
Speaking at the virtual extraordinary session of the Arab League Council at the ministerial level, Hussein said that Iraq will not allow its territory to be used for attacks against neighboring countries, according to an Iraqi Foreign Ministry statement.
He condemned attacks targeting areas throughout Iraq, describing them as attempts to drag the country into the ongoing regional war.
Hussein affirmed that Iraq's policy is based on condemning wars and resolving conflicts through negotiations and diplomatic means.
He reiterated Iraq's support for negotiations between Iran and the United States, while condemning ongoing military campaigns against Iran.
The session came amid heightened regional tensions following joint U.S.-Israeli strikes on Iran starting on Feb. 28, to which Iran responded with missile and drone attacks on Israel and U.S. assets across the Middle East.
