The China Chamber of International Commerce (CCOIC) held the first in a new series of thematic business forums in Beijing on March 13, with Kenya as the opening focus. The event brought together government officials, business representatives and industry experts to explore new avenues for cooperation.

The forum came as China marks the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations with Africa. At the 39th African Union Summit in February, China announced it will fully implement zero-tariff treatment starting May 1, 2026, for 53 African countries that maintain diplomatic relations with China.

Liu Jiannan, vice chairman of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) and vice chairman of CCOIC, said Kenya is an important economic and trade partner for China in Africa.

He encouraged Chinese companies to seize the opportunities created by the zero-tariff policy and expand mutually beneficial cooperation.

Kenyan representatives also introduced the country's investment environment and cooperation advantages.

Willy Kipkorir Bett, Kenya's ambassador to China, delivered a video address, while Lynette Mwende Ndile, deputy head of mission at the Kenyan Embassy in China, presented Kenya's business environment and competitive products.

Representatives from 32 Chinese companies across sectors, including agriculture, construction, telecommunications, automobile and aviation, shared their investment experiences in Kenya and explored potential partnerships.

By the end of 2025, more than 50,000 Chinese enterprises had established operations overseas.

As the number of Chinese companies expanding abroad continues to grow, demand for high-quality and professional overseas services has also increased.

To support Chinese enterprises in exploring global markets, CCOIC plans to continue the forum series with future events focused on specific countries and industries, providing platforms for market analysis, dialogue and business matchmaking.
