Caracas holds Botafogo in Copa Sudamericana

Arthur Cabral scored a second-half equalizer to earn Botafogo a 1-1 home draw with Caracas FC in their opening Copa Sudamericana group match on Thursday.

Wilfred Correa gave the visitors the lead in the 43rd minute when he slotted the ball into the far corner after Botafogo's defense failed to deal with a corner.

Cabral put the Brazilian side on level terms just after the interval, pouncing on a loose ball and bundling home from the edge of the six-yard box.

Botafogo controlled over 70 percent of possession and completed more than twice as many passes as its opponent but lacked sharpness in attack.

Elsewhere in the Copa Sudamericana on Thursday, Carabobo won 1-0 at home to Bragantino, America de Cali drew 1-1 at Macara and Cienciano drew 1-1 at Juventud.
