UK exhibition fosters cultural exchange at garden expo

The U.K. Liverpool Garden at the 15th China (Wenzhou) International Garden Expo, scheduled to open from April to July in Wenzhou, Zhejiang province, will offer more than a showcase of British landscaping. Organizers said it will serve as a platform for cultural exchange and a shared vision of environmentally sustainable development between China and the U.K.

The garden combines classic British landscaping with local culture from Wenzhou, creating a space that reflects both traditions. Plants, stone, and carefully designed spaces are used to express a shared appreciation for nature, as well as a sense of simplicity, elegance, and balance.

At the entrance, a rust-colored globe sculpture evokes the legacy of industrialization, while nearby elements inspired by China’s high-speed rail system symbolize modern momentum. Together, they highlight the two countries’ pasts and presents. A restored red telephone box and a traditional British post box, both brought from the U.K., add a distinctly London feel to the garden.

Further inside, sloping lawns, scattered woodland, and water features unfold along winding paths. Plantings combine British species such as roses, hydrangeas, and ornamental grasses with local varieties, creating a layered landscape that changes with the seasons.

At the top of the slope, a pavilion is designed in the style of a traditional British country estate. Its clean lines and understated form combine wood and glass, blending classical craftsmanship with modern materials.

From the upper floor, visitors can take in panoramic views of the garden expo while enjoying afternoon tea, or relax on a lower viewing deck overlooking sweeping floral landscapes. Rather than a static exhibit, the garden is designed as an interactive space that encourages visitors to slow down and take in the surrounding view.
