The One Health Concept and Practice Symposium was held today in northeastern Beijing's Pinggu district, bringing together leading forces from government, academia, research institutes, and industry to explore collaborative pathways and promote high-quality development under the One Health framework.

Endorsed by the World Health Organization (WHO), the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH), the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the One Health approach recognizes the inseparable interconnection between human, animal, and environmental health – a principle now central to global public health and biosafety governance.

Pinggu district has been actively addressing major public health challenges, including the control of human-animal shared infectious diseases and antimicrobial resistance. In partnership with China Agricultural University, the district has established the One Health International Science and Technology Cooperation Center, aiming to become a world-class biosafety innovation hub that strengthens regional and national health security.

The symposium was attended by senior officials from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, and the China Animal Disease Control Center. Leading experts in the One Health field, as well as representatives from major domestic vaccine manufacturers, gathered at the event.

The symposium also witnessed the official inauguration of the Expert Advisory Committee for the Agricultural Zhongguancun One Health International Science and Technology Cooperation Center. The committee comprises top academicians and leading enterprise executives from across China. It will serve as a high-level think tank, providing strategic guidance, technical support, and policy advice to accelerate the Center's development into a premier international platform for biosafety research and innovation.
