Editor's note: The China (Beijing) Aerospace Science Center opened earlier this month in Changping district, northwest Beijing, serving as a major new hub for aerospace education. The center, located within a large park-style commercial complex, gives visitors a hands-on look at China's space achievements and future exploration plans.
A model of China's first carrier rocket, the Long March 1, is displayed at the China (Beijing) Aerospace Science Center on May 8, 2026. Developed over 12 years beginning in 1965, the rocket was named "Long March" by scientist Qian Xuesen to reflect his belief that China's aerospace endeavor would demand the same spirit of perseverance as the Red Army's historic march.
