Diplomatic envoys explore sports, innovation in Beijing's Changping

Diplomatic envoys and their family members from Argentina, Ghana, the Maldives, Pakistan, Croatia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Bangladesh and other countries attended a cultural and tourism exchange event in Changping district, Beijing, on May 16.

The event, launched on the sidelines of the ITF World Tennis Masters Tour MT400 Shangdong Cup Beijing-Changping, was supported by institutions including the Beijing Service Bureau for Diplomatic Missions and centered on four activities: tournament viewing, tennis, ecological and cultural tourism, and exchanges with tech enterprises.

Organizers said it aimed to raise the international profile of Changping's cultural tourism resources and promote people-to-people exchanges between China and foreign countries.

Guided by professional instructors, the delegation visited the Shangdong Sports Center to watch matches and play tennis. They later toured ecological sites across Changping, learning about local conservation efforts and green development. Delegates praised Changping's blend of natural ecology and urban life, noting it offered a relaxed setting for international exchange.

The delegation also visited Noetix Robotics (Beijing) Technology Group Co., Ltd., where they got up close to cutting-edge technologies. The Bumi humanoid robot demonstrated voice interaction and physical performance, while the N2 model showcased balance control, posture adjustment and complex movements, giving the envoys an in-depth look at the progress of China's humanoid robot industry and Changping's innovation drive.

The 2026 ITF World Tennis Masters Tour MT400 Shangdong Cup Beijing-Changping ran from May 13 to 17 at Shangdong Sports Center in Dongxiaokou town, Changping district. The tournament drew tennis enthusiasts from China and abroad and is a key initiative by Changping district to integrate sports with urban development, cultural tourism and national fitness.

Located in northern Beijing along the extended north-central axis, Changping is known for its scientific and technological innovation, natural scenery and historical heritage. In recent years, the district has embraced openness and international cooperation.

Dongxiaokou town, a key hub for high-quality development in Changping, has prioritized integrated cultural and sports development with ambitions to become a "Tennis Town," leveraging high-standard sporting events to sharpen its regional profile and drive urban growth.
