Tulsi Gabbard is resigning from her post as U.S. Director of National Intelligence, according to a Fox News report on Friday.

Gabbard notified U.S. President Donald Trump during a meeting in the Oval Office on Friday, the report said.

"My husband, Abraham, has recently been diagnosed with an extremely rare form of bone cancer," Fox News quoted her resignation letter as saying.

"At this time, I must step away from public service to be by his side and fully support him through this battle," she said.

Gabbard, a former Democratic congresswoman, endorsed Trump in the 2024 election and was then nominated to lead the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, which oversees 18 U.S. spy agencies.

In recent months, Gabbard was sidelined from Trump's discussions on operations in Venezuela and Iran, according to media reports.
