At a press conference on Monday, the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) announced a comprehensive arrangement for the 2026 National Science and Technology Workers Day.
Marked annually on May 30 since its approval in 2017, this year's event represents the 10th anniversary of the initiative and aligns with the start of China's 15th Five-Year Plan period.
Under the theme "Forging Ahead into the 15th Five-Year Plan Period, and Writing a New Chapter in Science and Technology," the celebrations will be coordinated alongside the National Science and Technology Week. The overall framework will feature a central event in Beijing, alongside a range of activities mobilized by national academic societies, local science associations, and community organizations.
On May 30, CAST will host the main event at the National Communication Center for Science and Technology. Centered on the heritage of scientific dedication, the program will feature storytelling sessions titled "Stories of Scientists Through Collections" and an acquisition ceremony for the latest materials added to the collection project on veterans' academic growth. Recipients of the National Award for Excellence in Innovation and representatives of the "Role Model Science and Technology Workers" will share their frontline research experiences. CAST will also display outcomes from its youth talent cultivation initiatives.
To align with socioeconomic objectives and connect scientific research with industrial demand, national condition studies will be organized among young science and technology talents in places like Tianjin, Fujian and Hainan, fostering interdisciplinary exchange. Meanwhile, approximately 50 "Innovation China" service teams will visit industrial parks and enterprises to offer technical diagnostics, joint R&D support, and personnel training. A dedicated exhibition on "AI+" application scenarios will demonstrate artificial intelligence integration across various industries.
Working in coordination with all of this, the China Scientists Museum opened major exhibitions dedicated to pioneering scientific figures and China Science and Technology Museum will partner with physics institutes to present specialized salons and a lunar-themed exhibition. Also prioritizing public engagement, other science museums and bases for promoting the spirit of scientists will host various activities across the country and volunteer teams will conduct science lectures in schools and communities.
