Atalanta midfielder Ederson has been drafted into Brazil's squad for the FIFA World Cup, the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) said on Sunday.
The 26-year-old replaces full-back Wesley, who was ruled out of the tournament in the United States, Mexico and Canada due to an adductor injury.
"Wesley is a popular member of the squad and will always be considered part of this team as it seeks a sixth World Cup title," the CBF said in a statement.
Wesley, who was substituted off in the 16th minute of Brazil's 2-1 friendly win over Egypt on Saturday, vowed to come back stronger from the setback.
"Today I have to put a dream on hold because of an injury," the Roma defender said in a social media post. "It hurts not to be able to keep wearing the Brazil shirt at this moment, but anyone who knows my story knows that giving up has never been an option."
"Falling is part of the journey. Getting back up has always been my greatest strength," he added.
Ederson earned the most recent of his three Brazil caps in a 4-1 World Cup qualifying loss to Argentina in March 2025.
Brazil will begin its World Cup campaign against Morocco in New Jersey on Saturday before facing Haiti and Scotland in Group C.
