FC Barcelona has confirmed a two-year contract extension for Danish defender Andreas Christensen.

The news means the 30-year-old will stay at Camp Nou Stadium until the end of June 2028, when he will be 32, although the agreement includes a clause that allows Barcelona to end the deal after one year if Christensen continues to suffer the physical problems that have affected him recently.

Christensen's contract brings a happy end to a season marred by a serous knee injury suffered in December, which has kept him out of action for the second half of the campaign and limited him to just 18 appearances in all competitions.

The Danish center-back joined Barcelona from Chelsea on a free transfer in the summer of 2022 and has so far played 98 times for the club, impressing with his ability to step into a holding midfield role when needed.
