Editor's note: An invitational painting exhibition showcasing 50 works from 20 contemporary artists is currently on display at Chanfu Temple in Beihai Park until Aug. 3.
The event is organized by the Beijing Municipal Forestry and Parks Bureau, the Beijing Municipal Administration Center of Parks and the China National Society for the Promotion of Arts and Culture.
First built during the Qing dynasty (1644-1911), the red-walled Chanfu Temple is surrounded by ancient trees and formerly served as a place for the imperial family to pray for blessings, offering a soothing atmosphere for appreciating artworks.
The exhibition features traditional style Chinese paintings portraying landscapes, flowers and birds, and people. Visitors to the park can enjoy the classical garden as well as contemporary expressions realized through traditional painting techniques.
