Yuzhong district: Experiencing Chongqing's global charm

Yuzhong district, the historic core of southwest China's Chongqing Municipality, is extending an invitation to visitors, businesses and investors worldwide as it accelerates its transformation into a modern international metropolis driven by innovation, industrial upgrading and greater openness.

With a history spanning more than 3,000 years, Yuzhong serves as the city's central urban district and a key hub for international exchanges in western China. Blending the city's iconic mountain-and-river landscape with a dynamic business environment, the district is positioning itself as a gateway connecting Chongqing with the world.

As Chongqing's primary window to the outside world, Yuzhong is home to all 15 foreign consulates general in the municipality, about 90% of the city's foreign-related resources, and half of the Fortune Global 500 companies operating in Chongqing. It is also the preferred destination for foreign institutions and international businesses establishing a presence in the city.

The district hosts dozens of international conferences, business forums and trade events each year, reflecting its growing role in global engagement. It is also advancing the develo832pment of an international hub for the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor, targeting average annual trade growth of more than 10% with ASEAN while building a leading inland center for cross-border financial services. 

Boosting international consumption is another key priority.

Yuzhong is upgrading its signature commercial areas, including Jiefangbei, Daping and Hualongqiao, to enhance both consumer experience and commercial quality. Leveraging its distinctive multi-level urban landscape, the district is creating new consumption scenarios and expanding western China's first demonstration area for departure tax refunds, with the aim of becoming a premier destination for international visitors entering China.

Looking ahead to 2030, Yuzhong plans to further upgrade its service sector, focusing on modern finance, digital and intelligent information services, and technological innovation, while achieving sustained growth in service sector value added. The district is also fostering new quality productive forces by accelerating the commercialization of cutting-edge technologies.

Inviting people around the world to discover the district, Yuzhong officials said visitors can expect a unique blend of international sophistication and the distinctive charm of the mountain city, where modern trends coexist with vibrant everyday life.

As the district continues to expand its high-level opening up, it aims to present itself as an open, prosperous and globally connected urban center at the heart of Chongqing.
