As Weinan prepares to host the 18th Shaanxi Provincial Games on Aug. 15, State Grid Weinan Power Supply Company (SGWPSC) has strengthened its power supply support to ensure the event runs safely and smoothly. Featuring 41 sports and 1,117 events and attracting more than 20,000 participants, the games will place high demands on the city's power system.

As spotlights illuminate the night sky above the Weinan Sports Center and tens of thousands of spectators and athletes turn their attention to the competitions, power workers have long been silently standing behind the scenes.

State Grid Weinan Power Supply Company began formulating its power guarantee plan as early as March. At that time, the venue renovation project was still underway, with cable routes, load distributions, and access conditions constantly changing. Following site surveys and repeated plan revisions, the company finalized its power supply contingency plan in early June.

Ensuring a stable power supply remains the company's top priority. Most competition venues adopt dual high-voltage power sources, equipped with uninterruptible power supplies and generators. Emergency power-generating vehicles will also be deployed before competitions begin, providing multiple protections against potential outrages.

Power demand during the opening and closing ceremonies is expected to exceed 4,000 kilowatts, and even a momentary interruption could affect both the event schedule and live broadcasting. Power technicians will conduct comprehensive inspections before each event. During the special-grade power guarantee period for the opening and closing ceremonies, inspections will be conducted every 30 minutes; while hourly inspections will be conducted throughout the first-grade power guarantee period during competitions. Around-the-clock on-site monitoring will ensure immediate response to any emergency.

SGWPSC has developed dedicated power supply plans for every competition venues and tailored support plans for reception hotels. "In case of any emergency, the backup power generation will be activated immediately to ensure power supply," said Zhou Chen, a power inspection specialist from State Grid Weinan Linwei Power Supply Company.

For Zhou, participating in the power guarantee work for Shaanxi's largest sporting event represents both a professional responsibility and a source of pride, as it allows him to contribute to one of the city's most important occasions.

The company's support extends beyond the competition venues. SGWPSC has conducted special inspections of cultural and sports facilities, improved power services and upgraded urban power infrastructure. These improvements have strengthened Weinan's power grid, and created greater capacity to support industrial upgrading and growing electricity demand across the Central Shaanxi Plain city cluster.

The games also coincide with the summer peak electricity season. While ensuring reliable power for the event, SGWPSC has coordinated resources to maintain uninterrupted household power supply. Drones are being widely used to inspect overhead transmission lines, further improving the reliability of the local power network. As athletes compete on the field, residents across the city can continue their daily lives without disruption, demonstrating the resilience of Weinan's power system during a major event.

Reliable power supply is not only essential to the games, but also serves as a lifeline for economic activity and urban governance. Long after the games conclude, the power support capability strengthened through months of preparation and the dedication of countless power workers will continue to underpin the city's high-quality development.
