China Cycling Super Game opens in Zigong with nearly 3,000 riders

The 2026 Volant Aerotech China Cycling Super Game opened July 25 at the Southwest China Cycling Center in Zigong, Sichuan province, bringing together nearly 3,000 professional cyclists and amateur riders from China and abroad.

Jointly organized by the Chinese Cycling Association, the Sichuan Provincial Bureau of Sport and the Zigong Municipal Government, the event is the first cycling competition in China to stage all major disciplines on a single platform and the country's largest in terms of competition categories and scale, organizers said.

Over the next two weeks, athletes will compete in seven national-level disciplines, including track cycling, road cycling, mountain biking, BMX racing and pump track racing.

Racing began after the opening ceremony with the China Track National Championships at the center's velodrome.

Opening-day events included qualifying rounds in the elite men's team sprint and elite women's team pursuit in the morning, followed by finals and medal ceremonies later in the day.

Zigong has established itself as one of China's leading cycling destinations, boasting a cluster of world-class cycling venues, internationally certified tracks and extensive experience in staging national competitions.

During the event, Zigong will highlight local attractions including its salt history, dinosaur fossils and lantern displays through themed cycling routes and side events.

This year's competition introduces a dual-track model combining professional racing with mass participation. Alongside providing a stage for China's top cyclists, the event aims to develop young talent, promote cycling culture and encourage public fitness.

Organizers are also using the event to link sports with culture, tourism and commerce, supporting the General Administration of Sport of China's "Travel with Sports Events" campaign and boosting local consumption.

After the track events, competitions in road cycling, mountain biking, BMX racing and pump track racing will run through Aug. 8.
