Statues of Songtsen Gampo and Princess Wencheng stand outside the north gate of the Songpan Ancient Town. The statues commemorate the marriage between Tibetan leader Songtsen Gampo and Tang Dynasty Princess Wencheng in 641, which established a rapport between the central authorities and the Tubo Kingdom ruling Xizang at the time.
