Riestra stuns Boca Juniors in season opener

Deportivo Riestra scored three first-half goals en route to a 3-0 home win over Boca Juniors in the opening round of Argentina's Clausura tournament on Sunday.

Braian Sanchez, Antony Alonso and Alexander Diaz struck inside the first 38 minutes and the hosts defended comfortably thereafter to move to the top of Group A.

Boca controlled 82 percent of the possession but lacked incisiveness in the final third, managing just three shots on target.

In La Plata, Gabriel Avalos and Santiago Montiel scored late to fire Independiente to a 2-0 away win over Estudiantes.

In Sunday's only other Argentine top-flight fixture, Atletico Tucuman was held to a goalless home draw by Independiente Rivadavia.
