The 2026 China Fashion Week · Kidswear concluded at Beijing's 798 Art District on July 28 after seven days of runway shows and public programs, completing China Fashion Week's first standalone season devoted to children's fashion.

The season was organized by the China Fashion Association in collaboration with the China National Garment Association, the government of Beijing's Chaoyang district and the Beijing 798 Cultural Media Co. Ltd. It ran under the "Pop Party" theme, with runway shows, industry activities and family-oriented cultural programs.

Xiong Ying, a renowned fashion designer and founder of luxury brand Heaven Gaia, presented the closing show, drawing on snow-covered mountains and glaciers through light fabrics, layered silhouettes and beadwork. The collection combined an interpretation of natural landscapes with a child-centered visual approach, closing a program that ranged from sportswear and everyday clothing to experimental and traditional-inspired design.

More than 20 Chinese brands and designer labels took part in the season, including Anta Kids, Hush Puppies Kids, DC Kids, Beautyberry Kids and Heaven Gaia. The lineup also included independent designers and a joint presentation by companies from Zhili, Zhejiang province, also known as "China's capital of childrenswear," giving the program a mix of major domestic brands, original designer labels and manufacturing-based businesses.

Functional design was one of the recurring themes. Anta Kids opened the week with clothing developed for running, ball sports, outdoor activities and winter settings, using quick-drying, high-stretch and wind-resistant materials. A pop-up retail space at the venue placed selected products alongside the runway program, linking collection launches with consumer experience and sales.

Traditional craftsmanship formed another major strand. A collaboration between Mark Fairwhale, the Genius Mom program and designer Mark Cheung incorporated more than 10 craft traditions, including Su embroidery, Dong brocade and Yi embroidery, into contemporary children's clothing. Other labels used embroidery, batik, beadwork and ethnic motifs in fabrics and silhouettes, showing different approaches to adapting traditional craft for everyday wear.

The runway calendar also reflected a broader range of children's design. Hush Puppies Kids, DC Kids and Beautyberry Kids presented collections covering school, outdoor, leisure and occasion wear, while emerging designers experimented with deconstruction, asymmetry, monochrome palettes and layered forms. Together, the shows treated children's clothing as an independent design category rather than a scaled-down version of adult fashion.

The program extended beyond the runway with parent-child handicraft workshops, a children's portrait project, an Anta Kids pop-up store and a space-themed carnival at the 798 Art District. "A Place for Everything: An Exhibition of Original Chinese Picture Books," which opened at the Today Art Museum in Beijing on July 5, will remain on view through Oct. 11.

The inaugural season reflected a broader shift in China's children's fashion sector from a primary focus on function toward greater emphasis on design and cultural expression. Organizers said China Fashion Week will continue developing the program through cooperation with childrenswear industrial clusters, intangible cultural heritage practitioners and arts education institutions, with the aim of strengthening links among fashion presentation, industry collaboration and cultural exchange.
