Wang, ranked No. 41 in the world, dominated the opening set and led 4-1 in the second before Kasatkina, ranked No. 61, fought back to force a tiebreak, winning it 7-5 to level the match.

Kasatkina carried that momentum into the deciding set, breaking serve late before closing out the match 7-5. She will face second seed Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan in the second round.

Also on Monday, China's Zhang Shuai defeated Kazakhstan's Yulia Putintseva 6-4, 6-1 to advance to the second round. Putintseva had won seven of their previous nine meetings, but Zhang controlled the match to secure a straight-sets victory.

Zhang, 37, will next face Latvia's Jelena Ostapenko.
