Fred rejoins Atletico Mineiro

Former Manchester United midfielder Fred has returned to boyhood club Atletico Mineiro after more than a decade in Europe, the Brazilian club said on Friday.

The 33-year-old, who had a year left on his contract with Turkish club Fenerbahce, agreed to a deal that runs until December 2029.

"We bring a world-class player back to Brazil in a complex and highly significant negotiation," Atletico said in a statement. "Fred's arrival stands among the biggest major signings in Brazilian football."

Fred began his youth career at Atletico Mineiro in 2003 but has never played professionally for the Belo Horizonte club.

Capped 32 times for Brazil, his career has also included spells at Internacional and Shakhtar Donetsk, among other clubs.
