Shanghai Disney Resort shared new updates on Saturday about its upcoming Spider-Man-themed land at the biennial D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event in Anaheim, California.

During the Horizons: Disney Experiences Showcase at this year's D23, Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios and chief creative officer of Marvel, said the new land will be built around the Worldwide Engineering Brigade, or W.E.B., a fictional organization featured in Spider-Man attractions at other Disney parks. The Shanghai iteration of W.E.B. will debut with the opening of the new land.

In the story, W.E.B. is an innovation hub where heroes, inventors and engineers collaborate to create and test new technologies. W.E.B. Shanghai will bring a Spider-Man adventure to life in the new land, Feige said.

The Spider-Man-themed land, Shanghai Disneyland's ninth themed land and third major expansion since the park opened, was first announced at D23 in 2024. Development has continued over the past two years. Ride track installation was completed in June, and the first ride vehicles will soon begin testing.

A new rendering released during the showcase offers a closer look at the land. It features a giant Spider-Bot, one of the robotic creations built by Peter Parker and fellow inventors at W.E.B.

Attendees at D23 also got a first look at murals commissioned for the new land by Chinese artists. Inspired by Shanghai, the murals reimagine Marvel heroes through a local lens and offer an early glimpse of W.E.B. Shanghai. The resort said they reflect its commitment to celebrating local culture.

D23, Disney's flagship global fan event, serves as a platform for major announcements and new developments across The Walt Disney Company, bringing together fans, creators and industry observers from around the world.

The Horizon: Disney Experiences Showcase, hosted by Neil Patrick Harris, drew a packed arena for a look at the future of Disney's parks, cruise line and experiences.

Throughout the evening, executives, Imagineers and storytellers unveiled updates on projects worldwide, including Tropical Americas, Monstropolis, and a "Cars"-themed area, as well as Villains Land at Walt Disney World Resort; a "Coco" attraction and an Avengers Campus expansion at Disneyland Resort; a "Lion King"-themed area in Paris; new Marvel experiences in Hong Kong and Shanghai; and a reimagined Space Mountain in Tokyo.

The showcase also included Harris' opening tribute to Disney Audio-Animatronics, surprise performances by Grammy-winning artists including Sheryl Crow, Beck, Los Lobos and Gloria Gaynor, and celebrity cameos.

When Walt Disney opened Disneyland in Anaheim on July 17, 1955, he created a destination built around storytelling and immersive experiences, ushering in a new era of family entertainment shaped by Disney Imagineers.

More than 70 years later, Disney operates six resort destinations worldwide, in Anaheim, Orlando, Tokyo, Paris, Hong Kong and Shanghai, with a seventh in development in Abu Dhabi. They include 12 theme parks and 57 resorts across three continents. Disney Signature Experiences also includes a cruise line with eight ships and five more planned, a Hawaiian beach resort, a vacation ownership program and a guided family adventure business.
