Hamburg signs Nigerian striker Moffi

Hamburg announced the signing of Nigeria international Terem Moffi from French Ligue 1 side Nice on Monday, adding the center forward as its seventh new arrival of the summer.

The 27-year-old completed his medical over the weekend before signing a contract of undisclosed length. Moffi will wear the No. 9 shirt.

Moffi said talks with Hamburg's coach, the club's management and its supporters helped convince him to move to Germany. "Even though HSV spent a few years in the second division, the club is still a big name all over the world," he said. "When I told my father about the interest, he immediately knew which club it was and was full of excitement."

The striker said he was eager to contribute beyond goals. "As a striker, of course I love scoring goals, but I also love working for the team and keeping the whole group together," Moffi said.

Moffi arrives after spending the second half of last season on loan at Porto, where he scored twice in 13 appearances. The spell followed a difficult period after a cruciate ligament injury in the summer of 2024 interrupted his progress at Nice.

Before the setback, the left-footed forward had established a strong scoring record in France. He scored 34 goals in 87 appearances for Lorient before joining Nice in 2023, then netted 20 times in his first 50 games for the Cote d'Azur club.

Moffi has also scored six goals and provided two assists in 23 appearances for Nigeria since 2021.
