The China Golf Association China Tour will make its debut in Hong Kong when the tournament tees off at the Fanling Old Course on Thursday.

The Fanling Classic will run through August 30, featuring 126 players from 16 countries and regions. The event continues the Golf Association of Hong Kong, China's drive to increase opportunities for local players and further connect with the game on the mainland.

Local favorite Hak Shun Yat, who sits third in the China Tour Order of Merit, said he was looking forward to competing at home.

"I'm looking forward to it, going back to a place that I know, but not knowing what the course is going to be like at all," Hak said. "I'm going to be excited about playing the course, and coming back to Hong Kong to have some great food and see some great friends."

Also heading to the upcoming Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Hak said, "It's been a busy year and there's a lot left... I've managed to win one tournament and have a second and there is still a lot more golf left in the second half of the season."
