Argentine teenager Joaquin Freitas joins Flamengo

Flamengo has reached a deal with River Plate to sign highly rated Argentine teenager Joaquin Freitas, both clubs said on Tuesday.

The 19-year-old agreed to a contract that runs until 2031 after completing a medical at Flamengo's Rio de Janeiro headquarters.

"We wish you many titles and great performances," Flamengo said on social media.

It did not disclose financial details of the agreement, but local media reported that Flamengo paid nine million U.S. dollars for 80 percent of the forward's economic rights.

Freitas made 30 first-team appearances for River Plate after being promoted from the Argentine club's youth academy last year.

He made his full international debut in Argentina's 2-0 friendly win over Honduras in June.
