Afghan forces seize 2,858 firearms, huge ammunition haul in 12 months, official says

Afghan security forces have confiscated 2,858 heavy and light weapons alongside a substantial cache of ammunition over the past 12 months, the government spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid announced on Wednesday.

Unveiling the results of a series of special operations conducted nationwide, Mujahid disclosed that troops successfully recovered 2,858 assorted firearms spanning the full spectrum of heavy and light weaponry, 25,854 rounds of ammunition, 169 mines of various classifications, seven communication devices, and 10 pieces of military equipment.

Authorities also detained 804 suspected smugglers along with 232 vehicles and 26 motorbikes. Mujahid noted that several of the impounded military vehicles were seized during the operations.
