Carrascal shines as Flamengo sinks Mirassol

Jorge Carrascal scored one goal and set up another as Flamengo edged closer to Brazil's Serie A summit with a 2-0 home win over Mirassol on Wednesday.

The Colombian midfielder opened the scoring at the Maracana by taking a touch to control Pedro's pass and rifling a 12-yard shot into the roof of the net.

Carrascal then turned provider as he delivered an inch-perfect cross that Paqueta headed into the far corner.

"It's about wearing the shirt with pride and working as hard as we can," Carrascal told reporters after the match. "We know the great responsibility that comes with playing for Flamengo. I believe that, with each passing day, we are improving and we need to make the most of this run we're having."

The result leaves Flamengo with 51 points, one behind leader Palmeiras. Mirassol is 16th, 26 points further back.
