Former Atletico Madrid winger Samuel Lino scored in the second half as Flamengo rose to the top of Brazil's Serie A on Sunday with a 1-0 away win over Remo.

Lino broke the deadlock in the 65th minute by combining with Giorgian de Arrascaeta and toe-poking a shot into the far corner.

The hosts finished the match with 10 men after Edson Fernando was shown a straight red card for remonstrating with the referee.

The result leaves Flamengo with 54 points from 26 games, a point ahead of second-placed Palmeiras with 12 matchdays remaining. Remo is 19th in the 20-team standings with 23 points, six points from the safety zone.

"It was a tough win away from home on a difficult pitch in the heat and the rain," Lino said after the match.

"But we played like warriors today. We were united as a group and that made the difference. I'm glad to have been able to help the team by scoring."

Elsewhere in Brazil's Serie A on Sunday, Chapecoense won 2-1 at Corinthians, Botafogo drew 0-0 at home to Palmeiras, Santos edged to a 3-2 win at Internacional, Cruzeiro won 3-1 at home to Athletico Paranaense, and Mirassol prevailed 2-1 at Coritiba.
