Ghana FA promotes grassroots football to unearth talents for national teams

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has stepped up efforts to revive and strengthen grassroots football with the launch of the 2026-27 Colts Football Season juvenile league, aimed at identifying talent for the country's various national teams.

GFA President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku said reviving the Colts competition was not merely about restarting a tournament, but about rebuilding a comprehensive development pathway for young Ghanaian footballers.

"We want to find talent where talents live," Simeon-Okraku said.

The league is designed to facilitate a smooth transition from youth to senior football by giving young players regular, high-level competition in a player-centered development environment.

The launch ceremony was attended by former Ghana Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan, who currently serves as the GFA's ambassador for the national teams and grassroots football.

The revival of the league follows Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama's call for the GFA and club administrators to urgently raise the standard of domestic football and restore the country's defunct Colts league.
