Guangdong lion dance, a national-level item of intangible cultural heritage, originated in Lingnan and spread overseas with Chinese migration. In Thailand, it has become a cultural link between Chinese and Thai communities. By inviting students from the auditorium onto the stage, the guided tour offered a closer look at how "Awakening Lion" combines dance with southern Chinese martial arts to tell a story of national awakening.
Thai students and teachers said the experience helped them appreciate the craftsmanship of traditional lion dance props and better understand the values of unity, perseverance and determination embodied in the art form.
The event highlights how performing arts can bring traditional culture to international audiences in contemporary ways. Through backstage engagement and cultural exchange, "Awakening Lion" is creating opportunities for young people in China and Thailand to connect through Lingnan's cultural heritage.
