Adjust font size:

Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing said on Saturday that President Hu Jintao's North America tour was "fruitful."

Li, who accompanied Hu on the visit, made the remarks in Vancouver, Canada, to the press before Hu's departure for China.

Hu paid state visits to Canada and Mexico and attended the United Nations 60th anniversary summit, which brought together more than 150 heads of state or government.

Li said the tour helped promote consensus and cooperation between China and Canada, and China and Mexico.

According to Li, Hu also elaborated on the Chinese government's position on major international issues and pushed for the establishment of a just and rational international political and economic new order in a bid to safeguard the rights and interests of developing countries.

During the UN summit, Hu met with leaders from 11 countries including the United States, Russia, India, Sweden, Pakistan, the Philippines, Algeria, Zambia, Gabon, Mozambique and Macedonia, Li said.

The meetings helped enhance communication and mutual trust and promote the further development of bilateral relations between China and these countries, he noted.

Hu also made clear during this tour China's peaceful development strategy, winning extensive understanding and support from other leaders, Li added.

Before leaving Canada, Hu also visited Ballard Power System Inc, a world leader in fuel cell development, and attended a farewell luncheon hosted by Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin.

Hu and Martin expressed their willingness to further strengthen bilateral cooperation in a bid to promote their bilateral strategic partnership.

They also agreed to enhance cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region and continue to make contributions to the development and prosperity of the region.
