Adjust font size:

Guo Jingjing, dual Olympic gold medalist and world champion, won the women's 1m springboard at the 4th East Asian Games in Macao yesterday, meaning all three of the day's diving golds went to China.

The 24-year-old led all the way through the event, winning cheers and applause from spectators for every dive.

Guo scored 319.59 points, ahead of her teammate Ma Qianli with 295.74 and Japan's Ryokyo Nishii with 292.53.

"It's an easy win," she said, "There wasn't much pressure and I was ready and calm."

Asked about the challenge from her younger teammates, Guo said: "I don't worry about it. I will do whatever I need to do."

Talking about the media frenzy surrounding her arrival, Guo said: "Entertainers like pop singers, movie and TV stars need attention. Athletes don't."

National Games winners Chang Jing and Wang Liang won the men's 10m synchronized platform diving, beating Kim Chon-man and Ri Jong-nam from North Korea and Son Seng-chel and Kim Jin-yong from South Korea.

"I didn't feel much pressure," said Chang. "Two golds from the National Games and the East Asian Games are reward for 10 years of training."

Luo Yutong, third in the men's 1m springboard at the National Games, won the 3m springboard.

"The competition wasn't close," said the 20-year-old, who led five out of six dives, beating teammate Pan Zhaowei into second place.

Ken Terauchi from Japan came third.
