More People Evacuating from Flood-hit City
Adjust font size:

A total of 877 residents were evacuated from their homes on Saturday in Wuzhou, a city on Xijiang River, a main tributary of Pearl River, bringing the number of evacuees from the city's flood-inflicted areas to 100,000.

All the evacuees are living in local schools or temporarily built shelters on highland, according to information from the Wuzhou City Government in south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

Wuzhou was hit by rainstorms last Thursday, which triggered landslides, mud flows and flash floods in the city, leaving 14 people dead and 27 others injured.

The natural disasters also destroyed more than 6,704 houses and many infrastructure facilities in the city, resulting in traffic suspension in some parts of the city.

A local meteorological forecast showed there will be more torrential rains on forthcoming Wednesday.
