China Mobile's Subscribers Reach 274 Million

Never content to sit back on its laurels, China Mobile Communications Corporation (China Mobile) has reaped the fruits of its ongoing success. Figures released yesterday showed that in the first half of 2006 alone, 25.77 million new subscribers joined China Mobile, taking its total number users to 274 million.

 

At a press conference, the president of China Mobile, Wang Jianzhou, revealed that his company's net profit in the first half of this year was 30.17 billion yuan (US$3.78 billion), up 25.5 over the same period last year.

 

He added that the interim dividend per share is now 0.62 HK dollars (8 US cents), together with a special dividend of 0.09 HK dollars (1 US cent).

 

Looking ahead, Wang said, the company will be active in promoting the development of mobile telephone usage in rural areas, continue adding valuable services on their products, and make preparations for the 3G market planning and operation. He said the company will strengthen its marketing strategies and try to bring more long-term profits to its investors.

 

China Mobile is ranked No.2 stock on the Hang Seng Stock Exchange in Hong Kong in terms of market capitalization.
