Stronger Security Fence at Budapest Airport
Adjust font size:

Work began on Monday at Budapest's International Ferihegy Airport to replace the site's boundary fence as part of a 2.5-billion-forint (US$12.5 million) scheme to improve security and other facilities.

The stronger replacement fence has only three access gates compared with the nine of the previous one. Only staff with specific tasks inside the zones will be allowed to enter after thorough security checks, Hungary's MTI news agency reported.

The number of staff that have access to the zone will be reduced from 11,000 to 700.

The secure zone includes runways, taxiways and transit areas for passengers and cargo.

The second part of the project is to be completed by the end of March.
