The entrance area of an imperial mausoleum in the eastern Chinese city of Nanjing has now become free to the public.

The mausoleum belongs to Zhu Yuanzhang, the first emperor of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644 AD). It was branded as a world cultural relic in 2003 by UNESCO.

A new round of protection efforts at the historic site started earlier this year, including the repair and reassembling of remaining cultural relics, such as stone sculptures and architecture.
