The Beijing International Tourism Festival, hosted by the Beijing Municipal Government and China's National Tourism Administration, is held every September in Beijing. Known as "a carnival with Chinese characteristics", a number of foreign countries participate each year. The carnival first began in 1998, and has been held many times since.

The festival boasts various kinds of cultural activities and grand ceremonies, including folk dances and a full-dress parade, a festival mainstay. Performers from many countries parade together in many areas throughout Beijing. With different themes, the parade promotes old customs, culture and the brand new appearance of a modern Beijing. In addition, the art troupes from home and abroad perform during the carnival, providing a variety of featured performances.
