IBM China Company Limited, headquartered in Chaoyang District, Beijing, is a wholly foreign-owned company founded in 1992 by the International Business Machines Corporation (IBM), the highly-reputed American multinational tech and consulting corporation.

IBM's global business revenue reached US$106.9 billion in 2011, with US$25.3 billion reported by the Asia-Pacific Region, a 9 percent increase, while the revenue from four countries, including Brazil, Russia, India and China rose by 10 percent. At present, IBM has nearly 20,000 employees in China.

IBM China, a leader in high-tech development and innovation, has been rated one of the most respected companies in China for ten consecutive years. The information systems developed by IBM has been applied to various important fields in China, including finance, telecommunications, metallurgical, petrochemical, transport, commodity circulation and education. The company has established good cooperation ties with many Chinese businesses, universities, research institutes and government departments, consulting them in information management, business integration, knowledge management, business collaboration and system management.

Since it began expanding its businesses in China in 1979, IBM has established a total of 31 branches in the country, with its businesses spreading to 350 Chinese cities. It has founded ten joint-ventures and wholly foreign-owned companies in China, providing the world-class service in a full array of fields covering hardware manufacturing, software development, information and consulting, as well as leasing services.

IBM China Research Lab, founded in Beijing in 1995, is one of IBM's nine research institutes around the world. The lab, which has always remained steady development over the past years, is recognized as one of the most outstanding research institutes in China.

IBM China Development Labs (CDL), established in 1999, has become one of the largest software development centers of the company in the world, as well as the largest software development center founded by multinational corporations in China. It is IBM's only software development center which is engaged in the development of the company's core brand software (including WebSphere, Information Management, Tivoli and Rational) and its industrial products and solutions (Lotus, Business Analytics, Industry Solutions, etc.)
