Samsung Electronics has maintained a relatively long relationship with China, dating back to 1992. Headquartered in Chaoyang District, Beijing, the South Korean company's Chinese branch has proven itself a major player in the Chinese electronics market. In 2011, it took the biggest market share in China for mobile phones, smart phones and televisions. Smart phones have proven to be the South Korean company’s strongest product line, and Samsung has a staggering 30 percent market share, beating Apple Inc. iPhone manufacturer by 20 percent.

For Samsung, China accounts for 9 percent of brand business revenues, currently US$9.6 billion, and that proportion will rise to 20 percent by the end of this decade. The company has localized its management in China with 70 percent of the department heads now being local hires. It also boasts a vast retail network which gives it a sharp competitive edge in the Chinese market.
