Ren Rongrong was born in 1923 in Heshan, Guangdong Province, and is an outstanding writer and translator of children's literary works.

His real name is Ren Yiqi, and Ren Genliu was his former name. Ren has a strong grasp of both Russian and English, and understands Italian and Japanese.

Ren graduated from Department of Chinese Literature at the Great China University in 1945. He served as Vice Director of the editorial department of Juvenile and Children's Publishing House and Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Shanghai Translation Publishing House since 1949.

Throughout his career, Ren has translated a large number of children's literary works first published in Russian, English, Italian and Japanese, such as The Complete Andersen's Fairy Tales, Pushkin's Fairy Tales, Pinocchio, Peter Pan, Pippi Longstocking, The Wind in the Willows, The Twelve Months (the fairy tale script) and Russian Folk Tales.

Ren received numerous literary awards including Chen Bochui Children's Literature Award (first established by outstanding Chinese writer Chen Bochui in 1981), Soong Chingling Children's Literature Award, Soong Chingling Champhor Tree Award, Translation Award of International Board on Books For Young People and Asian Children's Book Award. In 2002, Ren was awarded the title of "Senior Translator" by the Translators Association of China.

He received the Lifetime Achievement Award in Translation at the Second National Translation Conference in Beijing on Dec. 6, 2012.
