Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group) Co Ltd yesterday launched a new Panamax bulk carrier that will be delivered to Italy's Rizzo-Bottiglieri-De Carlini Armatori SpA Shipping Co, which has ordered seven other vessels with the Shanghai ship builder.

The Italian owner will get the 87,000-ton dry bulk carrier measuring 229 meters long and 36.8 meters wide, which was christened and named Giuseppe Mauro Rizzo yesterday, in February next year.

The Italian shipper has on order with the Chinese ship builder another three bulk carriers of the same tonnage as the one launched. It has also ordered four 110,000-ton oil tankers. Six of the vessels are now being built at Hudong-Zhonghua.

"We have 14 vessels on order with Chinese shipyards and we're very confident the new ships will be delivered on time," said Giuseppe Mauro Rizzo, managing director of RBD Shipping.
