The Amazon International Fair, which offers the greatest business opportunities for Brazilians, opened on Wednesday in Manaus, welcoming new investors, especially Chinese ones.

The fair has attracted 380 exhibitors and offered chances for foreign enterprises to establish business in the Amazon region.

The Brazilian government has offered many incentives for companies interested in establishing a plant in Manaus, especially Chinese ones, said Gustavo Filgueiras, a trade official.

"Chinese enterprises are welcome. The presence of Chinese products in the Brazilian market is very positive because they have very competitive prices, which oblige the others to do the same, what will be beneficial for consumers," Gustavo added.

Manaus, capital city of Amazonas state, is home to the Manaus Free Trade Zone. Over 500 companies in the zone employed about 100,000 workers and generated 17 billion U.S. dollars in 2008, said Gustavo.

At the moment, 13 companies in Manaus count on Chinese capital, eight of them are exclusively Chinese. Proview, which produces convertors for digital television signals, is a Chinese company.

"Thanks to their low prices, it will be possible for many people to purchase the convertor," said Gustavo, who is general coordinator of industrial projects of the Superintendence of Manaus Free Trade Zone.
