HK flat sales surge 115 pct in a year

A total of 12,380 sale and purchase agreements for all building units in the city were received for registration in January, up 11.4 percent on December and 115 percent year on year, the Land Registry of Hong Kong announced Tuesday.

The total consideration of sale and purchase agreements during the month was 44.7 billion HK dollars, up 4.3 percent on December and 139.3 percent year on year.

The 12-month moving average for January was 11,715, up 4.9 percent on the 12-month moving average for December and 37.7 percent for January last year.

A total of 10,656 agreements were for residential units, up 17 percent on December and 118.6 percent year on year.

The total consideration for the agreements was HK$36.2 billion, up 4.1 percent on December and 124.2 percent year on year.

The number of searches of land registers made by the public in January was 494,105, up 17.8 percent on December and 89.3 percent year on year. (7.8 HK dollars = 1 U.S. dollar)
