Canon Inc, the world's biggest camera maker, plans to move printer production to China for the first time, the Japanese-based firm said in Shanghai yesterday.
Canon, which manufactures printers in Thailand and Vietnam, is considering to set up manufacturing plants on the Chinese mainland, said Katsuichi Shimizu, Canon's managing director.
The company aims to increase sales of inkjet printers in China by 10 percent in 2010, making it Canon's second business pillar after digital cameras.
Canon also said that China's camera market could become the world's largest as early as 2015, overtaking the United States.
China revenue for the company is expected to hit US$10 billion in 2017, 10 times that of 2007.
Digital cameras, printers and office equipment are expected to account for about 30 percent of that each.
Canon said that Chinese camera sales would rise by 10 percent in 2010 while it forecast sales growth in developed nations would likely remain small.
