Farm produce and producer goods prices in China's 36 large- and medium-sized cities slightly dropped last week, the Ministry of Commerce said Tuesday.

In the week ended May 16, farm produce prices decreased 0.6 percent in the cities from a week earlier, the ministry's latest figures revealed.

Food prices account for 34 percent of the weighting in China's consumer price index (CPI), a major gauge of inflation.

The price of producer goods dropped 1 percent from a week ago, according to the ministry.

China's CPI rose 2.8 percent year on year in April, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said last Tuesday.

The producer price index (PPI), a major measure of inflation at the wholesale level, increased 6.8 percent in April from a year earlier, according to the NBS.
