Baidu Inc said it will set up a joint laboratory with Symbian Foundation to tap the demand of mobile Internet.

Under the strategic partnership, Symbian Foundation, the operator of the leading smartphone platform, will open necessary platform technology interfaces for Baidu to integrate its wireless "box computing" with the Symbian platform.

Application developers will also be able to incorporate Baidu's search function into their applications.

China has around 233 million mobile Internet users by the end of 2009, about 60 percent of the overall Web user base and the figure is set to grow firmly in the future.
